GitHub file size limit

Aim for

25MB

As of , GitHub accepts files up to 25 MiB through the browser, warns above 50 MiB on a git push, and blocks anything over 100 MiB outright. Because those are MiB and not MB, a file under 25,000,000 bytes is always safe.

By plan

GitHub limits by tier

What the same file is allowed to be, depending on the plan you are on or the route you send it by. Only the default free path is ever offered as a preset — the rest are here so you can see whether changing route is cheaper than compressing.

Browser upload

25MB

Push warning

50MB

Hard block

100MB
